Just another day at work - this is how our team take a break from software development. The idea of having an FCG ‘away day’ is to ensure everyone has some ‘away time from their computer’ for a day. We have been having away day for years, but they were traditionally ‘away weekends’. We’re excited to be unveiling our new blog – MindStream.  Our goal with this blog is not only to keep you up to date on new developments from Formicary Collaboration Group and MindLink, but also to serve as a trusted source for the latest trends and analysis on social collaboration in the enterprise.


“Enterprise Social” has evolved over the last few years into an all-encompassing term, meaning many different things to different people. Through our experience, “Enterprise Social” can be broken down into two main categories – Social Networking and Social Collaboration. Each of these offers slightly different features and related benefits to companies.

We will occasionally discuss concepts and events regarding Corporate Social Networking, or what we affectionately call “Facebook for the enterprise”, which makes it easier for employees to identify who does what within their organization and share general information. However, the blog will primarily be devoted to social collaboration and written for business leaders seeking social tools that will help them work more efficiently with one another as groups and ultimately reduce the volume of emails shared between teams and throughout their organizations.

Why collaboration?

Business success today depends on teams of individuals working towards collective goals. A recent Harris Interactive survey commissioned by Microsoft revealed that after collaboration, organizations evaluate the impact of their social solution based on its ability to enhance productivity (they can measure actual efficiency gains, 64% of respondents) , its corporate adoption and its value added to business processes (both at 51% of respondents) and  its cost savings (42% of respondents).

Traditional email and social networking technology tools have fallen short in the enterprise in delivering business value because they are not designed for team-based communication.  These tools specialize in connecting people on the individual level and have limited ability to truly enhance group collaboration and productivity.

We want this blog to be a go-to resource for IT leaders on how to deploy smart enterprise social collaboration solutions.  We promise to dive deep into the issues -- addressing topics about security, system integration, compliance and ensuring widespread adoption.  And in the spirit of collaboration, if there’s a specific topic area you’d like us to touch upon in more detail, please don’t hesitate to reach out and let us know.
